Wisdom Teeth Removal
Overview:
Wisdom teeth are the last molars to emerge or erupt on each side of the jaws, usually when a person is between 16 and 20. Other teeth or bone can trap wisdom teeth beneath the gum tissue.
Swelling and tenderness may occur if teeth are impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth may cause severe problems and must be removed before problems get worse. Some wisdom teeth are very difficult or complicated to remove and your Belfield dentist may refer you to an oral surgeon.
Belfield Dental Care:
Wisdom teeth are third molars that usually do not push through the gums and become impacted. Wisdom teeth that only partially emerge or come in crooked can also lead to painful crowding and disease.
Teeth removed before age 20 have less developed roots and fewer complications. People between 16 and 19 need to have their wisdom teeth evaluated. A tooth extraction is a relatively routine procedure. Your dentist at Belfield Dental will recommend either “going to sleep” using general anesthesia, or numbing this area in your mouth with a local anesthesia.
