Dental Implants
Overview:
Dental implants are titanium screws inserted into the bone by your dentist at Belfield Dental. If you are considering implants, you must have healthy gums and adequate bone to support the implant. If your bone is too thin or soft and unable to support an implant, you may require a bone graft. Or if there is not enough bone height in the upper jaw or the sinuses are too close to the jaw, you may require a sinus lift.
A dental implant can help support a healthy bite, keep teeth in their proper places, and contribute to decreasing bone deterioration. The pressure and stimulus of the chewing action can also help to preserve the jawbone. Dental implants can also be beneficial to the overall beauty aspect of your teeth.
Belfield Dental Care:
A dental implant is a titanium post like a tooth root that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line that allows your dentist at Belfield Dental to mount replacement teeth or a bridge into that area. An implant doesn’t come loose like a denture can. Implants also benefit general oral health, because they don’t have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges.
Patients either must have enough bone to support the implant, or be good candidates for surgery to build up the bone where the implant will be placed. Chronic illnesses, such as diabetes or leukemia, may interfere with healing after surgery. Patients with these issues may not be good candidates for implants.
